Local Government and Non-Profits can realize significant savings by sharing infrastructure like datacenters, networks, and support teams.   Not only does it take fewer people to support a shared asset, but the cooperative group can afford to hire a higher level of expertise than they could individually.

One example of such an arrangement is the Marin Information and Data Access Systems (MIDAS).  MIDAS is a consortium of Marin County cities and towns, public safety, and special agencies.  MIDAS facilitates shared justice applications, managed internet, wireless, security (VPN/firewall/threat protection) and network services like redundant high bandwidth internet service.  MIDAS provides a suite of services for a lower total cost for consortium members.
