Student HotSpot Project

About

In the weeks following the initial shelter in place order for the COVID-19 crisis, Marin County Free Library and Marin Promise Partnership partnered to respond to the need for internet connectivity for students for distance learning. With the support of local funders, the partners raised $400,000 and committed staff resources to purchase, distribute, and manage 1,100 hotspots.  By engaging school district partners, the devices were distributed to students and are providing an essential connection for many to support online learning.

As the collaboration continues to evolve, the partners have contributed further funds to bring an Education Pioneers COVID-19 Fellow to Marin for a year. With this added staff capacity, the partners will continue to closely manage the hotspots and assist local school districts in transitioning students and families to long term connectivity solutions, wherever available.
